Lactic Dehydrogenase Activity in Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid in Children

Abstract
Changes in the levels of lactic dehydrogenase activity in sera and cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F.) were investigated in pediatric diseases which included 10 cases of normal children, 28 cases of encephalitis and 5 cases of tuberculous meningitis.
Normal values for the 10 cases were found to be almost similar to those reported by other Authors. The 11 cases of encphalitis in comatous state showed markedly increased levels in both serum and CSF, but an:)thr 11 cases of encephalitis in non-comatous state and 5 caws of tubercluous meningitis showed slight increase in the LDH levels, but the 11 cases of encephalitis in non-comatous state showed significantly increased level in CSF. Increased levels of LDH activity in acme stage of the encephalitis patients showed fall toward the recovery stages.
Apparently there existed no relationship in the LDH activity between the sera and CSF in patients with encephalitis and tuberculous meningitis.
